For more than 40 years, the mission of the Friends of the San Marino Public Library has been to raise money that the library can use to supplement the allocation from the City, allowing it to keep its collections up-to-date and provide special services it would otherwise be unable to afford.
  • In the last few years, the friends have generously provided the following:
  • All of the children's books, large print books, books recorded on tape, videos, and compact discs in the library.
  • Many of the new circulating adult fiction and non-fiction books.
  • Most of the Asian books, newspapers, and magazines in the library.
  • Cataloging services and tools that have helped the library get its new books on the shelves faster.
  • Annual support for the Summer Reading Program that encourages kids to read all summer, summer programs and prizes.

The Friends also support staff development by funding staff attendance at library conferences, consultants, and workshops.

The Friends' Board of Directors meets monthly, conducts an annual membership drive, runs a used Book Shoppe in the Library auditorium, and holds periodic book sales and rare book auctions to boost the amount of money we can give to the library. Books to be sold are culled from the collection and donated throughout the year by local residents.
